About Savers from the Heart

Savers from the Heart (SFTH) is an independent non-government, non-political, non-religious and non-profit organisation registered with The Registrar General’s Office and Council for Non-Governmental Organisations in Malawi (CONGOMA) and based in Malawi. Savers from the Heart’s prime motto is to promote the wellbeing and offer access to education and nutrition for the under privileged Malawian children.

The organisation’s Head Office is based in Lilongwe while its operations are in Lilongwe rural and other districts within the Central region. Savers from the Heart core programme areas are: Health and Nutrition; Quality Education; Early Childhood and Development; Women and Youth Empowerment; Food Security & Climate Change Management; and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.

The type of activities undertaken by the organisation range from capacity building to service delivery, with focus remaining on the deprived and marginalised segments of the society living in the hard to reach areas. Whereas in terms of operations, what characterises Savers from the Heart functioning are its efforts to enlist involvement of the locals when initiating activities at the grass root level. All our programmes are done with thorough consultations with the communities including existing community structures such as chiefs, extension workers, local committees and community members including the women and youth.

Our mission is to develop and protect vulnerable children, to improve their access to nutritious foods and health, and to stimulate early learning as well as skills development.

Our vision is to prepare the underprivileged children for a brighter future and to make them realise their potential of becoming responsible citizens of Malawi.

Commitment

Honesty

Honesty refers to being truthful and transparent in all communications with colleagues, superiors, subordinates, and even external stakeholders like clients, customers, and partners.

Meet Our Executive Team


Eve Chibambo

Executive Director

Evelyn has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Diploma in Marketing. She has vast experience in strategic management, crisis management, leadership skills, financial management and organisational development which she acquired over her 16 years in the banking industry. Above that, she is an innovative manager who is good in conflict resolution and resource management. Evelyn has a great passion working with communities especially women and children making meaningful and positive changes to their lives.


Fletcher Shaba

Programmes and Policy Manager

Fletcher is a dynamic, result oriented Project Manager with strong interpersonal communication, organisational skills and distinctive experience working with diverse groups at local, national and international levels. He has vast experience managing high-pressure and multi-year projects for both local and international organisations. For over twenty (20) years in Project Management working with national and international organisations has achieved a lot and has held high management positions. Key programme areas: Quality Education, Early Childhood Development, Child Rights and Protection, Strategic Planning, Advocacy, Research and Development. He is a holder of a Bachelor’s degree and Masters’ degree in Project Management.


Lettiah Alibi

Nutrition Program Officer

Lettiah is a holder of a university diploma in Nutrition and Food Security and an advanced university diploma in HIV and AIDS Management. She is the Nutrition Programme Officer for the organization. She has more than 3 year experience working in community nutrition and nutrition related projects.


Newton Sangano

Accountant

Newton is a Chartered Management Accountant who graduated from University with a degree in Accounting. Since then, he has worked in all manner of accounting and finance roles, starting in accounts clerk roles, working upwards and moving into financial management and budgeting.  He has worked for small businesses, start-ups and some global brands and more recently in the private sector. During that time, he’s seen some really good accounting systems. He has over 17 years of experience in accounting.


Meet Our Board Of Directors


Dixon Ngwende

Board Chairperson

Dixon Ngwende has over 30 years of middle and senior management experience in development international organisations, private sector, and public sector. He is currently serving as the National Programme Coordinator for Financial Access for Rural Markets, Smallholders and Enterprises (FARMSE) Programme, a US$57.7 project funded by IFAD, Malawi Government and the private sector. He has previously served as National Programme Director for Rural Livelihoods and Economic Enhancement Programme (RLEEP); as Country Director for Volunteer Services Overseas (VSO); Programme Development Specialist for USAID Malawi; Deputy Country Director, Save the Children –UK, and Programme Officer for the USAID funded SHARED Project. He is a holder of Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Cyprus Institute of Management and Diploma in Business Studies from University of Malawi. He is reading for doctorate degree in business administration with UNICAF University.


Robert Adamson Machinjiri

Board Member

Mr. Robert Adamson Machinjiri is a Fellow of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (FCCA), a Chartered Accountant (CA) Malawi and also holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University (UK). He has over 11 years combined experience in external and internal audit, fraud prevention and investigations, enterprise risk management and financial accounting. Currently he is working as Internal Auditor with National AIDS Commission (NAC) since 2014. Prior to joining NAC, he worked 5 years for a big 4 accounting firm PWC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) as a Senior Associate responsible for diverse client portfolios ranging from manufacturing, fast Moving consumer goods and financial services. He has also worked briefly for another big 4 accounting firm Ernst and Young as well as Malawi Posts Corporation. He is passionate about good governance principles, ethical principles as well as high personal integrity.


Eya Mwenefumbo Gondwe

Board Member

Eya Mwenifumbo Gondwe is a passionate midwife and advocate working in Malawi for White Ribbon Alliance, a global, people led movement for reproductive, maternal newborn health and rights .She has 13 years of progressive work in health systems strengthening specifically in reproductive, maternal, neonatal and child health. She has worked on different projects with multiple donors to strengthen RMNCH in health facilities owned by Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) for over 6 years prior to working with CHAM she was working as a bedside nurse at Kamuzu Central Hospital for 5 years. Eya holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and post graduate university certificate in Midwifery from Kamuzu College of Nursing, she also holds a Masters’ degree in Public Health from Malawi College of Medicine, Eya is a passionate, highly Motivated, vibrant team player who strongly believes that no mother should die whilst giving birth


Mr Michael Allibi

Board Member

Michael is an epidemiologist with an MSc in Epidemiology from College of Medicine and Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Public Health. He has worked in both public and private sector in Malawi for over 15 years. Michael has vast experience in nutrition programming and strategic Information systems management which our organization is benefiting from. Currently he is working as a Technical Advisor for Fast-Track Cities project funded by USAID and implemented by UNAIDS/IAPAC.


Alick Sikelo

Board Member

Alick Sikelo is a seasoned Human Resources practitioner with exceptional skills and competencies in the HR circles. Has extensive experience in HR profession for over 20 years in the areas of Human Resources, Organization Development and General Management and Administration. He is the founder of ALDOR Management Solutions and Services, a reputable consulting firm in Malawi. Possesses Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Resources Management from the University of Malawi, Chancellor College, Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resources Management from IAC, South Africa and ESAMI- Masters in Business Administration (MBA) .He served in Board for Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) from 2018 to 2020 and currently serving as two boards; Malawi Business Coalition Against Aids (MBCA) and Press Trust Board- Press Agriculture Limited where is serving as a Board Director. Currently working for Airtel Malawi Plc as Director of Human Resources.


Peter Yakobe

Board Member

Peter Yakobe is a Social Entrepreneur and International Development expert (www.peteryakobe.com), a co-founder of Center For Free Market Enterprise (CFME) a non-profit organization. He has served on the Students For Liberty’s African Executive Board as a regional director for Southern Africa. He has also worked with Starbucks Corporation in the United States of America. Peter is a graduate of ATLAS leadership academy an institute which trains leaders across the world in organizational leadership, project management and fundraising. He holds a BA in Christian Leadership with Business, and a Master’s degree in international development management with distinction under the prestigious Chevening scholarship.
